Somewhere Else is the 14th studio album by the British progressive rock band Marillion . It was released in April 2007.
background
In contrast to the two previous albums Marbles and Anoraknophobia , Somewhere Else did not have a funding campaign by the fans. The album was only released as a "normal" CD, which caused displeasure among many fans because they expected something special - bonus tracks on their pre-order CD or their names in the booklet of a deluxe edition. Marillion responded with a DVD with 3 Somewhere Else live tracks, recorded at the Marillion Weekend 2007, which was sent to all pre-orders together with the CD. Michael Hunter was hired as the producer for this album, who, according to Steve Rothery, made for a more spontaneous, easier attitude.

Reviews
The reviewers criticized the album as positive but not outstanding. A comparison was often drawn with Marbles , which Somewhere Else mostly lost.
“The good news: The inclined fan does not expect half-baked experiments and also no disoriented self-discovery processes like on 'Radiation' and 'marillion.com'. 'Somewhere Else' follows on from the excellent predecessor 'Marbles', with which Marillion found their way back to themselves and their unmistakable sound. The new album is by no means a scrap from Marbles sessions, but rather convinces with the kind of songs that are written only by Marillion with this intensity and captivating atmosphere, as can be found on 'Brave' and 'Afraid of Sunlight' can be. "
“'Somewhere Else' is a pleasantly earthy trip, free from bombast quark and electro frills. No Dream Theater meets Tangerine Dream, but handmade light prog with psychedelic approaches, from which the melodies only slowly emerge, but without building up boredom. How is that supposed to happen with crisp pieces like 'The Wound', which say everything in seven minutes that others laboriously roll out into 20 minutes. "
“... the footprints that 'Marbles' left three years ago are practically miles wide. Oversongs like 'Neverland', 'The Invisible Man' and above all 'Ocean Cloud' as perhaps the most brilliant long track in the band's history cast an oversized shadow of expectations for the new album by the British noble sound tinkerers. A shadow of expectation that you would rather throw overboard quickly if you don't want to have it too difficult with 'Somewhere Else'. "
“'Somewhere else' also has beautiful melodies with Weltschmerz and dynamic moments, as well as a slight 60s touch, but you won't find a real hit on this album. This doesn't mean that 'Somewhere Else' would be a disappointment - by no means. "
"... for me SOMEWHERE ELSE is a successful mixture of RADIATION and MARBLES, but cannot quite keep up with the latter."
“In 2007 Marillion are a perfectly functioning machine of excellent instrumentalists who seem capable of anything but a bad song. And maybe a big surprise. "
Re-release as LP
