Brave (. English for " Brave ") is the seventh studio album of British progressive rock - band Marillion . It was released in February 1994 and is Marillions' third concept album. Between 1997 and 1999 EMI released the Marillion albums created under their label as a 24-bit digital remaster 2-disc version .

Emergence

Faced with some loose ideas from the band for the new album, Steve Hogarth recalled a radio report about a girl who was picked up on the Severn Bridge , seemingly disoriented . Since the girl did not speak, the authorities went public to clarify her identity. Hogarth: "I heard that and thought it would be a great first page in a mystery story." Based on this, the band developed a story about the life of this girl and moved to France to Miles Copeland's Chateau Marouatte in the Dordogne .

Release on vinyl

Vinyl records had been displaced more and more by the compact disc . However, these were still published in very small numbers by many artists. All Marillion albums were also released on vinyl. Aware of the fact that records were essentially only bought by enthusiasts, Marillion wanted to offer this small group something special. Contrary to the CD production, which comes to a conciliatory end with Made Again , there is another needle groove on the fourth side of the record, in which The Great Escape does not end well. Instead of made again , the only thing that follows is the splash of water from the Severn, with which the album begins. This version of The Great Escape was released as a CD single and later as a Spiral Remake on the remastering bonus CD .

Single releases

The first single was The Great Escape with the B-side Made Again in January 1994 , without reaching chart positions. The second single The Hollow Man , released in March 1994, with the B-sides Brave / The Great Escape (instrumental) / Winter Trees (instrumental) reached number 30 in the UK charts. The third single, Alone Again in the Lap of Luxury, with the B-side Living with the Big Lie , was released in April 1994 and reached number 53 on the UK charts.

filming

Richard Stanley filmed the story of the concept album. The video was released in 1995 and the DVD version was released in 2004.
