Anoraknophobia is the twelfth studio album by the British progressive rock band Marillion . It was released in May 2001.

background

The album title Anoraknophobia is a suitcase word made up of "Anorak", "No" and "Phobia". Anorak is an English slang term used to describe someone who has an obsessive hobby. "Anoracnophobia" should mean not to be afraid of people with passions. Marillion also understood this as a show of solidarity with their fans who had financed this album. The three previous albums were released by Castle Communications, an indie label , where Marillion did not feel in good hands. The fans were asked by email whether they would pre-finance the album, which more than 12,000 fans did. With the secured funding, Marillion then approached EMI and made the major label their distributor , but the rights remained with the band.

reception

In contrast to the previous albums , Anoracnophobia was very well received by most of the critics. At laut.de, the reviewer still mourns the Fish era and finds "incomprehensible breaks and monotonous vocal melodies". The reviewers of the Babyblauen Seiten, on the other hand, awarded more than 10 points for the first time since This Strange Engine . Progarchives.com, dprp.net, durp.com and vampster.com also emphasize Marillion's progressive orientation in the true sense of the word.
