Adam Jarzebski
Adam Jarzębski (* around 1590 in Warka ; † beginning of 1649 in Warsaw ) was a Polish violinist and composer .
Life
From 1612 Jarzębski worked as a violinist in the court orchestra of the Brandenburg Elector Johann Siegmund , with whom he gave concerts in many German cities. In 1615 the elector sent him to Italy for a year. In 1617 he settled in Warsaw as a member of the royal chapel. In recognition of his musical talent, he received numerous favors from King Sigismund, and he succeeded in being accepted into the Warsaw patriciate. In 1635 he was commissioned by King Wladislaw IV to oversee the construction of the Ujazdów Palace , and since then he has signed " muzyk JKM i budownicy ujazdowski ", synonymous with the royal musician and builder of Ujazdów . He wrote his will on December 26, 1648 and died a short time later.
Jarzębski's Canzoni e Concerti ... is one of the earliest preserved collections of early Baroque music in Poland. Although not printed until 1627, the works were created around 10 years earlier. They represent the mature Italian style of that time, which was also cultivated in Central Europe. Numerous works contain partially reworked musical material from motets or madrigals by composers such as Palestrina , Giovanni Gabrieli , Claudio Merulo or Alessandro Striggio .
Works (preserved)
- Canzoni e Concerti a Due, Tre e Quattro Voci, cum Basso continuo di Adamo Harzebsky Polono Anno 1627 ; therein 28 pieces; partly free compositions, the rest transcriptions of vocal works; some pieces bear names of German cities: Berlinesa , Norimberga Königsberga or Küstrinella. This could be an indication that these pieces were made around 1612 to 1616 when he was working for the Brandenburg court.
- “ Missa sub concerto ” for four voices and bc
- " More verum " canon for two voices (in anthology, Venice 1643)
- Gościniec Abo Krótkie Opianie warrszawy (Description of Warsaw in verse, which today offers valuable information about the development of the city at that time and was reprinted in 1974.)
