Warka is a city in Poland in the Masovian Voivodeship . It belongs to the Powiat Grójecki and is the seat of the town-and-country municipality of the same name with 19,262 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2019).

Warka is located on the Pilica River .

history

The city was first mentioned in the 13th century. The city received city rights between 1302 and 1321. From 1795 onwards, the city belonged to Prussia and from 1807 to 1815 it was part of the Duchy of Warsaw . After that it belonged to the Kingdom of Poland.

During the Second World War , the city was almost completely destroyed.
