Adam Kotowski

Adam Kotowski (* 1626 in Komorno , Silesia , † 1693 in Warsaw , Poland ) was a follower of the Polish King Jan Sobieski .

Life

Originally, Kotowski came from a peasant family in Silesia . As a young man he came to the royal court, where he was able to amass a significant fortune and was accepted into the nobility . In Warsaw he also owned a palace named after him , which, however, was destroyed by the Wehrmacht during the Second World War .

During the siege of Vienna in 1683, Kotowski took part in repelling the Ottoman troops on behalf of the Polish crown . Until his death he was a close confidante of the Polish king and truchess of Wyszogród . His body and that of his wife Małgorzata were buried in a chapel named after them in Warsaw's Old Town, which can still be visited today.
