Adam von Haren, the younger

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Adam von Haren , the younger (in some sources also called Daem, * around 1435, † 1517 ) was aldermen and mayor of the imperial city of Aachen .

Live and act

The son of the married couple Adam von Haren († 1454) and Agnes van den Weyer († 1467) came from the line Haren-Voerendaal of the old patrician family Van Haren from the former rule of Valkenburg . He first appeared in 1470 as a member of the city council of Aachen and was elected mayor in 1489 and 1496 .

The Adam von Haren family belonged to the wealthy families of Aachen. He himself owned extensive land and several city apartments, including the old mill from Gut Schurzelt, which was not part of the sale that his brother Frambach made as the owner of the estate in 1487. Adam also inherited the Margraten estates in Limburg and Hanbruch. He supported the monks of the regular monastery in Aachen several times and left parts of his lands to them on favorable terms.

Adam von Haren was married three times, first with Beelchen von Schyderich († after 1465), then with an unspecified wife and in third marriage with Katharina Bestoltz. He and his first wife had three sons and two daughters. His son Everhard von Haren , like his father, was accepted into the college of lay judges and elected mayor of Aachen. The sons Dietrich and Adam are not mentioned in detail. The two daughters entered the Benedictine monastery of St. Mauritius in Cologne as nuns , whereupon the Hanbruch estate was transferred to the monastery as a trousseau.
