Everhard von Haren (* around 1475 ; † before October 6, 1530 ) was a lay judge and mayor of the imperial city of Aachen .

Live and act

The son of the married couple Adam von Haren and the Beelchen von Schyderich († after 1465) came from the line Haren-Voerendaal of the old patrician family Van Haren from the former rule of Valkenburg . He first appeared as a member of the city council of Aachen in 1509 and was elected mayor of Aachen in 1511, 1514, 1521 and 1526 . In addition, von Haren was appointed Christoffel of the Albrechtsgrafschaft from 1520.

He achieved his greatest political success in 1513, when, after a long period of massive unrest, he and the mayor Wilhelm Colyn were able to reform the Aachen Gaffelbrief from 1450 . Von Haren stood on the side of the reformers and stood up for their concerns with Duke Johann von Jülich-Kleve-Berg as a higher authority.

The Everhard von Haren family was one of the wealthy families in Aachen. He owned extensive estates and several city apartments. He received the old mill from Gut Schurzelt as an inheritance from his father, from his underage niece Marie, daughter of his brother Dietrich, the Gut Margraten in Roderland and from the extinct family branch of his great-uncle Gerhard von Haren, the younger the Stadtpalais Haus Lewenberg. In addition, he acquired other townhouses and lands.

Everhard von Haren was married twice, initially with an unspecified wife and from around 1522 with Alveradis von Schwartzenberg († before 1555). Only his son of the same name is known of his children, who married Margriet Hagen (1520–1589) and apparently gave up his Aachen goods at the beginning of the Aachen religious unrest and set up his domicile in the Duchy of Limburg. This younger Everhard, later Drost von Boxmeer and Cranendonck , and his wife Margriet were the parents of Adam van Haren (1540–1589), who served as councilor and chamberlain under Wilhelm of Orange and as court master under Wilhelm Ludwig von Nassau-Dillenburg . Adam van Haren is the founder of the respected Frisian branch of the Van Haren family in the Netherlands, which existed until the mid-19th century .
