from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Land van Rode , also synonymous Land van s'-Hertogenrode or Roderland , is a historical name for the area of the cities of Kerkrade ( Netherlands ) and Herzogenrath ( Germany ) that used to belong together . At its core, it comprises the former dominion of Herzogenrath, from which the present-day towns of Kerkrade, Herzogenrath and Übach-Palenberg, along with a number of now dependent places, arose. The possessions of the Rolduc Abbey, which was secularized around 1800 , also belonged to this.

The two cities, which were only separated from each other when the border was drawn as a result of the Congress of Vienna (1815), have been officially cooperating since 1998 in the form of a corporation under the name Eurode . The aim is to improve contacts between the two cities at all levels. Eurode also uses the name of the historical name of the area.
