Adams is an impact crater to the east of the lunar front , southeast of Mare Fecunditatis , southeast of Petavius crater, and south of Legendre .
The crater is moderately eroded with a largely flat interior. It was officially named in 1970 by the IAU after the British astronomer John Couch Adams and the American astronomers Charles Hitchcock Adams and Walter Sydney Adams .
