Adda was an early king of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Bernicia from around 560 to around 568 .

Life

He was the eldest son of King Ida (547–559 / 560) and succeeded Glappa (559–560), who was sometimes regarded as his brother in older research, to the throne. In the late 6th century, Bernicia expanded west and north. The rule of Addas was marked by eventful battles between the Angles and the local Romano-Britons. The place Addington (Lancashire) with the patromymic syllable -ing is possibly connected with the descendants of King Addas. His eight-year reign was followed by the rule of his brother Æthelric . According to different information, Æthelric was his son.
