Æthelric (Bernicia)

Æthelric (also Aedilric, Eðilric, Æðelric or Æþelric ; † 572 ) was a king of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Bernicia . The years around 568 to 572 are considered to be the years of government.

Life

Æthelric was the son of King Ida of Bernicia . He succeeded his brother Adda on the throne around the year 568 . According to different information, Æthelric was a son of Adda. When he died in 572, his brother Theodric succeeded the throne. Æthelric was the father of Æthelfrith , who later also became king, and of Theobald, who fell under Aidan in the battle of Daegsastan (exact location unknown) in an attack by the west Scottish empire of Dalriada in 603 .
