Longobard Empire
- The Lombards succeed taking after three-year siege of Pavia , which they make their residence.
- June 28, 572 or 573 : Apparently at the instigation of his wife Rosamunde , the Lombard king Alboin is murdered in Verona ; Rosamunde escapes to Ravenna to the Eastern Romans . Cleph becomes the new king of the Lombards .
Visigoth Empire
- After the death of King Liuva I , his brother Leovigild , who had been co-king since 568 , becomes the sole ruler of the Visigoths .
- The Visigoths recaptured Cordoba from the Eastern Romans.
Eastern Roman Empire / Persian Empire
- Christian insurgents in the Persian part of Armenia ( Persarmenia ) ask the Eastern Roman Emperor Justin II for help. He agrees and also denies the Sassanid Persians the 562 agreed tributes.
- The renewed outbreak of war between the Eastern Roman Empire and the Sassanids (under Chosrau I ) put an end to the peace negotiated in 562 . Imperial troops try in vain to conquer Nisibis .

- Almost two years after the death of his predecessor Ahkal Mo 'Nahb II , Kan Bahlam I ascends the throne of the Mayan city of Palenque on April 6th . He is the first ruler of the city-state to add the term k'inich ("radiant") associated with the sun god to his name .
