Politics and world events

Balkans / Italy

  • The Longobards under Alboin , allied with the Avars , attack the Gepids under Kunimund . Kunimund confronts the Lombards with his main force, who destroy the Gepiden army; Kunimund is also killed, and Alboin has a drinking bowl made from his skull. Alboin takes Kunimund's daughter Rosamunde as his wife. The former tribal area between the Danube and the Carpathian Mountains now falls under the terms of the contract to the Avars. As they soon began to raid the Balkans , the Lombards withdrew to Italy as planned.
