Balkans / Italy
- The Longobards under Alboin , allied with the Avars , attack the Gepids under Kunimund . Kunimund confronts the Lombards with his main force, who destroy the Gepiden army; Kunimund is also killed, and Alboin has a drinking bowl made from his skull. Alboin takes Kunimund's daughter Rosamunde as his wife. The former tribal area between the Danube and the Carpathian Mountains now falls under the terms of the contract to the Avars. As they soon began to raid the Balkans , the Lombards withdrew to Italy as planned.
Franconian Empire / Visigoth Empire
- Chilperich I marries the Visigoth king's daughter Gailswintha , sister of Brunichild . Soon after, her husband strangled Gailswintha, who instead wanted a connection with Fredegunde , whom he married only a few days later.
- Liuva I. succeeds his brother Athanagild as King of the Visigoths. He makes his younger brother Leovigild co-ruler and leaves Spain to him. He himself only kept the imperial part of Septimania .
- After the death of Charibert I , the Frankish king with residence in Paris , his part of the empire is divided between the brothers Sigibert I , Guntram I and Chilperich I. The three Franconian parts of the empire Austrasia (Sigibert I), Neustria (Chilperich I) and Burgundy (Guntram I) are formed.
