  • Spring: The Frankish King Sigibert I marries the Visigoth king's daughter Brunichild .
  • Sigibert suffers a heavy defeat against the Avars . He is only able to purchase free withdrawal and a permanent peace agreement with the Avars by means of “gifts”.
  • Increasing rivalry between the Longobards under Alboin and the Gepids under Kunimund : The Eastern Roman Empire also intervened and occupied the fortress of Sirmium claimed by the Longobards . In order to win them over as an ally against Ostrom and the Gepids, Alboin contacts the Avars .
