Childebert I.
  • The Frankish king Chlothar I pulls against the Saxons and Thuringians , which his rival and brother Childebert I apparently incited against him. On hearing the rumor that Chlothar had fallen during his campaign, Childebert invaded his empire and devastated the area around Reims . Allied with him is Chram , a son of Chlothar I.

  • April 16 : Pelagius I is appointed as the successor to Vigilius, who died the previous year, as the new bishop of Rome . Since he is considered to be friendly to the emperor and the east , he was appointed against the resistance of part of the Roman clergy. He is suspected of guilt for the death of his predecessor Vigilius, which he denies on oath .
