Restauratio imperii
- July 1st : Second Gothic War : After the Eastern Roman army (approx. 30,000 men) marched into Italy under Narses via Dalmatia and Veneto, the battle of Busta Gallorum between the Ostrogoths and the imperial troops takes place near Perugia ; the Ostrogoths king Totila is killed and Narses wins a decisive victory.
- In Pavia, Teja is raised to the status of the last king of the Ostrogoths by the remaining Ostrogothic troops. Rome is lost to Narses, so that Teja can only organize one last resistance in Campania .
- October 552 (or early 553 ?): Two-day battle on Mons Lactarius ( Milchberg , near Naples ) between the Ostrogoths and the Eastern Romans, who win the battle. Teja falls, the Ostrogothic troops capitulate, there are only isolated acts of resistance (up to 555 ). In fact, the battle marks the end of the Ostrogothic Empire and Justinian's Gothic Wars.
- The Eastern Romans conquered the southern coastal strip between the Algarve and Carthago Nova including the city of Corduba from the Visigothic Empire . The area is organized as the Province of Spania .
Asia
- Establishment of the Empire of the Gök Turks under Bumın Kagan , after he defeated the Rouran and was declared ruler of all the Turkish-Mongolian peoples of eastern Central Asia by a Kuriltai (assembly of princes). He dies in the same year (probably murdered by his brother Istämi), so that the empire is divided between Istämi Shad and Sekin Shad.
- 552 or 547 : Campaign of the Yemeni ruler Abraha to Mecca .

- At the instigation of Emperor Justinian, Eutychius becomes Patriarch of Constantinople as the successor of the late Menas .
- Radegundis founds the Sainte-Croix monastery in Poitiers .
- The Armenian calendar begins.
- The King of Baekje sends Buddhist sutras and representations and a golden Buddha statue as gifts to the Yamato court in Japan . Under the influence of the family Soga is subsequently carried Tenno Kimmei of Buddhism in Japan introduced: the beginning of the Asuka period .
