  • The Justinian plague that broke out in the eastern Mediterranean is also spreading in Europe. The pandemic shakes Constantinople and large parts of the empire. In the following four months, 100,000 of the almost 400,000 citizens of the capital die. Few of the sick survive, including Justinian I.
