Adelaide Avalanche was a semi-professional Australian ice hockey club from Adelaide that played in the Australian Ice Hockey League from 2000 to 2008 .
history
In 2000, Adelaide Avalanche was one of the three founding members of the Australian Ice Hockey League together with the Sydney Bears and the Canberra Knights and immediately won the Goodall Cup , which the Australian champions receive. However, this remained the only title in the club's eight-year history. Adelaide won the VIP Cup as the best team of the regular season six times . Numerous foreign ice hockey players played for the Avalanche, such as u. a. the two Canadian ex- NHL players Steve McKenna and Mel Angelstad .
The club was dissolved in June 2008 after running into financial difficulties. In July 2008, the newly founded Adelaide A's received the starting place for the Avalanche in the Australian Ice Hockey League and played the season according to the Avalanche schedule to the end as well as with their already rated results. At the end of the season, the A's were sixth and changed their name to Adelaide Adrenaline to clearly differentiate themselves from the Avalanche.
