Adelmo Melecci

Adelmo Melecci (born May 18, 1899 in Felonica ; † August 31, 2004 ) was a Canadian music teacher, composer and organist of Italian origin.

Melecci left Italy in 1911 and studied at the New York School of Music and in Toronto at the Royal Conservatory of Music with Healey Willan and Ernest Seitz . From 1921 he taught piano, organ and music theory at the Royal Conservatory, in 1942 he founded its branch in Willowdale, which he directed until 1991. From 1929 to 1958 he was organist at the Richmond Hill United Church .

Melecci composed choral works, songs and piano pieces for children. His song The Candle was sung on CBC television at Christmas 1963 , and Meet Me at the Fountain became the theme song of the Canadian National Exhibition . Melecci remained productive as a composer until after his 100th birthday. The Royal Conservatory awards a scholarship on his behalf.
