Adept is the successor to Kynaptic , which is a fork of Synaptic , and like this predecessor, a graphical user interface of the package management Advanced Packaging Tool (APT), adapted for the K Desktop Environment (KDE). It was executable in Linux distributions Debian , and Linux distributions based on Debian Ubuntu and Kubuntu . With Kubuntu, the KDE variant of Ubuntu, it was the standard program with a graphical user interface for package management that controlled APT.
Adept was replaced by KPackageKit and development stopped at the end of 2008.
Components
Adept manager
Adept Manager is the main program. It displays a list of all installed or installable software packages. Additional information such as author, version number and size can be displayed for each package. Individual packages or the entire system can be updated. The sources from which packages can be installed (e.g. FTP server or CDs) are in the sources.list file in the / etc / apt / directory .
Adept notifications
Adept Notifications (English adept notifier ) is a small program that informs the user about upgradeable software via an icon in the notification field .
Adept updater
The Adept Updater (English adept updater ) performs the installation of updates: Software packages are downloaded and using dpkg installed. The progress is displayed. Alternatively, the text output of dpkg can be displayed.
