The Adessium Foundation is a humanitarian foundation with headquarters in Reeuwijk .

The foundation was founded in 2005 by the commodities trader Gerard van Vliet and his family with the proceeds from the sale of his investment company and donates around 18 million euros per year (2017).

Grants

  • In 2018, the Adessium Foundation supported projects with a total of 17.359 million . Only 8% of the funds went to non-European countries, the rest was divided roughly equally between projects in the Netherlands and the rest of the European Union .

In addition to people / nature and social initiatives, the foundation is also involved in the media sector, is one of the sponsors of the International Network of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), finances the Correctiv Portal with others and, along with 15 other foundations, is one of the founders of the Civitates financing company, which operates as "Initiative for Democracy and Solidarity in Europe" was founded.
