Superstar is a sneaker by Adidas from the 1970s. It originated from the Adidas Supergrip.

Characteristic for this model are mainly the toe caps made of rubber, the superstar in the American region the nickname "shell-toes" ( Shell-toes have earned). In the 1970s, however, the superstar was also delivered to NBA players without a rubber cap, as some complained of pain in their toes. These superstars are very rare and highly sought after by collectors. The ankle-high version of the Superstar is the Pro Model.

The shoe was developed and given out to some basketball players on a trial basis in 1969. It was introduced in 1970. Today the superstar is a classic, especially because of its popularity in the music scene - especially in hip-hop . The rap group Run DMC dedicated the song "My Adidas" on the album "Raising Hell" from 1986 to these shoes. For the 35th anniversary , Adidas released a special collection in 2005, the designs of which take up various themes. The “Berlin” model is in the colors of the German capital (white, black, red) and has the city's coat of arms, the bear with a crown, printed on it. The band Run DMC and their late member Jam Master Jay have their own model of the anniversary collection dedicated, as well as the artist Missy Elliott and the Red Hot Chili Peppers .

It was and is made in various color combinations and material compositions, some of which are so rare that collectors pay four-digit sums for them at online auctions .

At the same time, the tennis shoe model Adidas Stan Smith was created , which has the same sole and heel as the superstar.

Adidas Superstar Vintage Edition

The Adidas Superstar Vintage is the original shape of the Superstar from 1969. There is no Trefoil on the very flat heel, the sole tapers down and the toe is not as “rough” as the other shell toes. The silhouette of the entire shoe is very flat.

Adidas Superstar 1

This is the classic superstar who became known in the early-mid-80s for the increasingly successful hip-hop. Its silhouette is thicker than that of the Superstar Vintage, the toe is very rough, the heel is pulled up and provided with a trefoil. The tongue is not padded.

Adidas Superstar 2

This superstar is almost identical to the superstar 1, but the tongue is thicker.

Adidas Superstar 80s

This Superstar is a mix between the Superstar 1 and the Superstar Vintage. The heel is pulled up, but the toe is as smooth as vintage. The tongue is unpadded and the three strips are made of felt.

Adidas Superstar Foundation

Inferior materials compared to the Superstar 2. Strips not made of real leather.
