Adil Bəbirov

Adil Musa oğlu Bəbirov (born February 5, 1934 in Baku , Azerbaijani SSR , Soviet Union ) is an Azerbaijani composer , music teacher and sound engineer .

Life

Adil Bəbirov first learned the tar string instrument in a music school in Baku . At the Asəf Zeynallı Music School he was taught by Əhməd Bakıxanov (1892–1973). This taught him the basics of Azerbaijani folk music and mugham . After graduating from music school in 1954, he was admitted to the Azerbaijan State Conservatory in Baku that same year. Here he first received composition lessons from Əşrəf Abbasov. After half a year he moved to Qara Qarayev's composition class . He had to interrupt his studies for health reasons. In 1978 he finished his composition studies with a symphonic work, which was conducted by the conductor Rauf Abdullayev (* 1937) at the premiere. At a young age he worked as a sound engineer for television and radio, later as editor-in-chief of music programs. As a music teacher, he taught at the State Pedagogical University in Baku. He received the title of Honored Artist of the Azerbaijani SSR in 1989 . He currently lives in Canada .

Works

Adil Bəbirov mainly wrote film music. He also composed piano music: during the course of his studies, preludes, 1956 variations and 1966 a piano sonata. In 1975, the Azqrbaycan bəstəkarlarının pyesləri [compositions by Azerbaijani composers] were acquired by the Isiq music publisher in Baku . Two pieces by Bəbirov were included: a tokkata for piano and the Prelude Scherzo . Five pieces for chamber orchestra followed in 1983 and a ballet suite in 1984. For string instruments he composed a sonata for violin and piano and pieces for violoncello and piano. In addition to music for the theater, he wrote songs and romances. He set texts by the Azerbaijani poets and writers Bəxtiyar Vahabzadə (1925–2009), Fikrət Qoca (* 1935), Yusif Həsənbəy (* 1932) and Vaqif Səmədoğlu (1939–2015) to music. The piece Ekspromt was performed on May 17, 2019 by Mehri Əsədullayeva on the string instrument tar and pianist Əsgərli Arzu at a concert in the Great Hall of the Baku Music Academy. From 1990 to 2001 he made piano arrangements of various Azerbaijani folk songs.
