The Adlerarena at Landskron Castle is a bird of prey and owl park with daily flight demonstrations. The arena is part of the grounds of Landskron Castle , in which the Landskron Affenberg is located in addition to the castle restaurant .

The aim of the eagle air show is to bring the birds of prey closer to people and to convey interesting facts about these animals and about falconry . The behavior and habits of these partly threatened species will be explained during the air show. The birds come entirely from offspring.

Livestock

Around 50 animals of various species of birds of prey and owls are kept in the 27 aviaries . The more than 20 species include golden eagles , imperial eagles , coffee eagles and white-tailed eagles , kestrels , saker falcons and peregrine falcons. There are also red and black kites , hawks , griffon vultures as well as owls and a speaking raven. Young birds can be seen in spring.

Care station

The care station recognized by the state of Carinthia is a specialty . Every year up to 80 injured birds are taken from the wild. 50 percent of the injured birds of prey and owls and almost 100 percent of the young birds that have fallen out of the nest are cared for, made fit for their life in the wild and then released.

history

Michael Holzfeind and Franz Schüttelkopf founded the Landskron GmbH bird of prey observatory in 1983. The first demonstrations took place on the eastern slope of Landskron Castle. In 2004–2005 the eagle arena was built on the highest point of Landskron Castle. The eagle arena was opened in 2005.

Species protection

The Adlerarena is a partner of various species protection programs worldwide. A stud book coordinator is responsible for each endangered bird of prey and owl species. All information about the birds involved in the project is collected through a corresponding reporting system . A central point has all the important information about successful offspring and can contact the project partner - and form new breeding pairs if necessary.

If the breeding stock in the zoo is large enough, resettlement projects can be carried out with the offspring in nature. B. succeeded with the bearded vulture project in the Alps .
