criticism
Many raptor shows do not meet the current legal requirements for a technically and formally correct operation. The legal situation in Germany is complex, as animal welfare, hunting and nature conservation law must be observed. Most raptor shows should therefore actually have a zoo permit in accordance with Section 42 of the Federal Nature Conservation Act. In order to obtain these zoo permits, they would need to conduct research that contributes to the conservation of the species, breeding for the release of birds into the wild or training in conservation-specific knowledge and skills. An exemption under hunting law would also have to be available. The holding conditions often no longer meet the contemporary requirements in terms of enclosure size, enclosure equipment and supply. The working group peregrine falcon protection therefore demands regular, unannounced and expert controls at raptor shows. Consistent prosecution and sanctions in the event of grievances are also required.
