Birds of prey park Katharinenberg
The Katharinenberg bird of prey park as part of the Katharinenberg public park in Wunsiedel is a bird park with falconry and flight demonstrations .
Day birds of prey, including various species of hawks and buzzards , and night birds of prey, such as the great gray owl or the snowy owl are exhibited . Prominent large birds of prey such as the bald eagle or the golden eagle are represented, as are several vultures . Flight demonstrations take place daily. The park opened in 2007.
The bird of prey park is embedded in the public park on the Katharinenberg , also with regard to the natural history stations. These include a deer enclosure and the nature trail .
Incidents
On the afternoon of February 10, 2016, a 9-kilogram fox broke into the park's enclosure and bit 7 of the most valuable of over 50 birds of prey kept there. A 6-kilogram female eagle was among the victims. The fox was caught in a box trap the next day and was released again in the neighboring Czech Republic . In order to be able to start the air shows that are still planned, birds that have already been trained are borrowed or purchased from other falconries.
