The Lüneburger Heide wildlife park is a wildlife park near Hanstedt -Nindorf in the Harburg district in Lower Saxony . The park is home to around 1200 animals from over 130 species on an area of 61 hectares.

history

Georg-Friedrich von Krogh founded the Lüneburg Heath Wildlife Park in 1970 as a family and led him up to the year 1989. At that time there was in the Lüneburg Heath Wildlife Park already moose , Kodiak bears and European brown bears . In the course of time, the original wildlife park became a zoo with the official name "Lüneburger Heide Hanstedt-Nindorf Wildlife Park". The Tietz family has been running the Lüneburg Heath Wildlife Park as a family business since 1989. In 2012 the Wildpark Lüneburger Heide is a limited partnership with the name "Wildpark Lüneburger Heide Tietz KG", which is run by the managing directors Norbert Tietz and Alexander Tietz and employs around 150 people during the season.

profile

The Lüneburg Heath Wildlife Park tries to show the approx. 140 species of wild animals kept in their natural habitat. Keeping them within a forest area should enable the animals to behave as typical of the wilderness as possible. The location in the Lüneburg Heath is also intended to bring the animal world and nature closer to the visitors. For this purpose, visitors are also given direct contact with the animals within the petting zoo.

The concept of the wildlife park includes nature and environmental education. This concept is to be implemented in seminars, workshops and lessons in the zoo school, in natural history exhibitions as well as through guided tours and bird of prey shows and in the daily animal presentations.

falconry

Two raptor shows take place on the bird of prey meadow every day. Eagles, falcons, buzzards, vultures and owls are shown here in flight.

Various owls are exhibited in aviaries above the bird of prey meadow. Otherwise, visitors will find other birds of prey such as giant sea eagles and bald eagles on the park's circular path. Flight demonstrations take place from spring to autumn.

On behalf of the State Office for Ecology, the Lüneburg Heath Wildlife Park has been one of Lower Saxony's rescue stations for injured birds of prey since 1999. The accidental birds of prey are looked after, nursed back to health and released back into nature if they are fit to fly.

Animal presentations

From March to October the wildlife park shows the following regular presentations:

  • "Tiger lecture" about the two Siberian tigers Alex and Ronja and their habitat.
  • Hunters of the air can be experienced at the birds of prey show.
  • Fascination with wolves : Tanja Askani, wolf specialist, author and supervisor of the wolves in the wildlife park describes the fascinating world of wolves.
  • The otter feeding

Conservation breeding program

The zoo participates together with the Friends of Species Conservation Wildlife Park Lüneburger Heide e. V. (1st chairman Norbert Tietz) at the European Conservation Breeding Program (EEP) for otters , Red-crowned cranes , European white-tailed eagles , snow leopards , musk ox , mink and bison . He also takes part in various resettlement projects, e.g. B. the release of the lynx in the Harz National Park.

TV programs produced in the wildlife park

Since April 10, 2007, the wildlife park has had its own series with Wolf, Bär & Co. on NDR. 30 episodes were shot from March 2006 to September 2006. Each of the 30 episodes is about 50 minutes long.
