Eagle rock
The Adlerfelsen is a striking rock tower on the Königstein of the Teufelsmauer in the northern Harz foreland in the area of the town of Thale near Weddersleben in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt .
He forms with a height of 185 m above sea level. NHN the highest point of the Königstein and is a particularly striking part of the Teufelsmauer due to its tower-like structure. Monk , king or baboon head are also common names . At the upper end of the eagle rock is a stone formation that can be interpreted as a head facing north and is referred to as the devil or the king.
The name monk is associated with a legend. Afterwards a grandmother carried her grandson von Neinstedt towards Weddersleben, where he was to be baptized. The Beelzebub sensed the unbaptized and therefore defenseless child, hurried down from the Harz Mountains and wanted to grab it. At that moment, however, a monk stepped between him and his grandmother and banished the Beelzebub with his Bible raised , so that he was expelled.
From the years 1934/35, the time of National Socialism , it is said that a red flag is said to have been set on the Adlerfelsen. Efforts to find the culprit failed. Due to the difficult accessibility, the flag is said to have flown there for almost two years before a climber caught up with it. It turned out that it was a red petticoat that supposedly originally belonged to a wife of an NSDAP member.
