Adolf Aeschlimann founded a company in Zurich in 1896 specializing in interior design elements such as carpets and linoleum floors . Together with a partner named Maag, he relocated his business activities to Meilen near Zurich, where in 1900 he specialized in furniture production for hotel room furnishings in part of what was then the factory for alcohol-free wines.

In 1908 Adolf Aeschlimann expanded his business to include a newly built production facility at Meilen train station, where he was the first in Western Europe to manufacture plywood panels. The range included furniture that was mainly sold to the Swiss hotel industry until the First World War . When he died in 1932, Adolf Aeschlimann's company had between 70 and 80 employees, whereupon Oscar Aeschlimann (1890–1973) managed the business through what were probably the most difficult times in the company's existence. The business conditions in the years of the Second World War were made even more difficult by a major fire in October 1942. After the Second World War, plywood production became increasingly poorly profitable. Increasing competition in Switzerland and cheap imports from Finland and Brazil led to the plywood division being discontinued in 1954.

From the late 1940s, one of Oscar Aeschlimann's sons, Oskar Aeschlimann jun. (1922–1981), successive managerial positions in the company, during which Oscar Aeschlimann retired for reasons of age. As a manufacturer of bedroom and living room furniture in the upper price segment, a successful furniture production was continued until 1975, in order to finally dedicate itself entirely to furniture wholesaling from 1978. The reason for the discontinuation of production were increased requirements to comply with the environmental guidelines of the municipality of Meilen.

The premises that became free from 1975 on were gradually taken over by the neighboring company Produktions-AG (today Midor ). After Oskar Aeschlimann died in 1981, the fourth generation of the Aeschlimann AG wholesale company was taken over by Rolf Aeschlimann (born 1950).

Due to the changed needs for the continuation of the wholesale business, the shareholders decided in 1989 to sell the stock corporation. Today, in the fifth generation, Daniel and Luca Aeschlimann run the company under the name Aeschlimann Handels GmbH.
