Adolf Reitz (born April 15, 1884 in Stuttgart , † June 23, 1964 in Stuttgart-Degerloch ) was a German chemical engineer and author of popular science books .

Life

After attending secondary school, he began studying chemistry at the Technical University of Stuttgart , which he completed in 1906 with a degree in chemistry. Further studies in chemistry, natural sciences and a few semesters of medicine at the universities of Munich and Tübingen followed. In 1907 he completed this with his doctorate as Dr. rer. nat. 1907 (bacteriology).

From 1904 to 1907 he worked in the bacteriological research station in Stuttgart, after which he headed his own chemical-bacteriological laboratory in Stuttgart until 1940. At an early age he turned to writing with the particular intention of making research results accessible to wide circles in an understandable form. The total circulation of his writings, some of which were also published in translations in foreign languages, was already around one million in 1956 (publication date of the book Max Eyth, an engineer travels through the world ).

His first marriage was to Luise Berta geb. Röcker. From this marriage came a daughter (1910–1931). His first marriage was divorced on August 12, 1921, shortly afterwards he married Anni geb. Eisenreich from Passau (* June 6, 1900, † July 16, 1959 in Großerlach- Liemersbach ). After 1940 and during the Second World War , Adolf and Anni Reitz lived secluded in Großerlach-Liemersbach until the sudden death of Anni Reitz. During his time in Liemersbach, Adolf Reitz continued to work as a writer.

Then Adolf Reitz moved back to Stuttgart, where he lived at Entringer Str. 48 in Stuttgart-Degerloch until his death. Adolf Reitz no longer has any living descendants or relatives.
