Adolf Zander (born January 16, 1843 in Barnewitz an der Havel, † August 1, 1914 in Kleinaupa / Riesengebirge) was a German composer, organist at the Sophienkirche (Berlin) , choir director, Royal Prussian music director and founder of the new Berliner Liedertafel.

Life

Adolf Zander worked as a musician and teacher, in particular he dedicated himself to choral music. In 1881 he founded the “Zanderchen Quartettverein”, was the second conductor of the Berlin men's choir “Liedeslust” from 1877 to 1880, and in 1884 brought both choirs together in the new Berliner Liedertafel .

Zander lived in Berlin around 1880 at Höchst Strasse 26, later at Krautstrasse 16 and around 1895 at Graefestrasse.

Church music director Adolf Zander set the 140th psalm “Hallelujah. Praise the Lord in his sanctuary ”. The church choir of "Sophien" sang this psalm under the direction of the composer Zander, who also played the organ, in the festive service on the occasion of the bicentenary of the Sophienkirche in Berlin in 1912 in the presence of Kaiser Wilhelm II and the Crown Prince couple Wilhelm and Cecilie .

The Royal Music Director was buried on September 7, 1914 in the old Sophienfriedhof (Berlin-Mitte).
