Fito de la Parra
Adolfo "Fito" de la Parra (born February 8, 1946 in Mexico City ) is a Mexican drummer who is mainly known as a member of the blues rock band Canned Heat .
Life
As a child he played drums in many regional bands and then joined the Los Sinners , with whom he appeared on Mexican television, among other things. In the mid- 1960s the whole band entered the US illegally and was expelled after a few appearances.
His marriage to a young American, Sonja, enabled de La Parra to emigrate to Los Angeles , where he soon saw Canned Heat play in the Topanga Corral . He knew her drummer Frank Cook from earlier and he had invited him to join the Watch gig. Since Frank Cook's drumming of the band was too close to jazz , they replaced him in late 1967 with de la Parra, with whom they then appeared at the Woodstock Festival, among others . After the death of Bob Hite in 1981, de la Parra took over the band and continues to lead it today. The band is currently back in the Woodstock line-up with Harvey Mandel and Larry Tayloron tour. In 2011 the revised version of his biography was published, which he had now added to the years 2000-2010.
