Adolph Eckhardt

Adolph Eckhardt (born April 13, 1868 in Hamburg , † 1942 in Berlin ) was a German visual artist . He was best known as a glass painter, painter and etcher.

Life

Eckhardt studied at the arts and crafts schools in Hamburg, Karlsruhe, Berlin and at the Académie Julian in Paris. Study trips led him a. a. to Italy , southern Germany, the islands of Föhr and Rügen. From 1892 to 1899, Eckhardt taught several subjects at the Hamburg School of Applied Arts (now the University of Fine Arts Hamburg am Lerchenfeld) and was one of the teachers who were responsible for the design of posters, invitations, and posters by the Arts and Crafts Association founded in 1886 to promote the arts and crafts Menus for the annual foundation festival was requested. 1899 move to Wilmersdorf in the Teltow district near Berlin , where he works as a freelancer. Employment as artistic director for ship equipment at Pfaff in Berlin. Eckhardt moved to Charlottenburg, Bismarckstrasse 12. In 1907, at Ansbacher Strasse 19, he started his own business with B. Gojert. Subsequently, the "Workshops for glass painting and art glazing" was founded at his address in Bismarckstrasse.

In 1912 he moved into his newly built house on Irissee in Wilhelmshorst , Eibenstrasse. He lived here until the late 1930s. The marriage with Anna, née von Bofinger, remained childless. Adolph Eckhardt was a member of the Hamburg Artists' Association and the German Werkbund .
