In his pictures Ghenie uses a material mix of photos, (edited) newspaper and video clippings and self-painted material. They are dominated by black and dark gray, and scenes are often depicted that appear both realistic and indefinite. His fascination for history and the trauma of dictatorship can be seen in his works.
