Advanced Photon Source

The Advanced Photon Source , APS for short , is a third generation synchrotron radiation source at the Argonne National Laboratory approx. 40 km southwest of Chicago and is operated by more than 450 employees. The first synchrotron radiation was produced on March 26, 1995. On more than 60 beamlines , questions from applied research and basic research are dealt with, especially in the fields of physics , chemistry , materials science , geosciences and the life sciences . By December 2016, APS users had published a total of more than 18,500 articles in scientific journals .
