Advanced Satellite Launch Vehicle
The Advanced Satellite Launch Vehicle ( ASLV ) was the second launcher , after the SLV , of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). The aim was to transport a larger payload of 150 kg, four times the SLV, into a 400 km high orbit . In contrast to the SLV, the first stage was expanded to include two boosters derived from the first stage. The first stage became the second stage, it was only ignited after the booster had burned out. The empty weight of the upper steps has also been reduced. The first launch was on March 24, 1987 , but was unsuccessful. Only at the fourth and last start on May 4, 1994 ASLV was successful.
