Advent water

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Advent water is a term used in inland shipping on the Rhine and Main.

nature

After rains in late autumn and first snow before Christmas , the level of the rivers to rise, leading to flooding may result. Responsible for this is an annually recurring meteorological phenomenon, which in the second half of November on the Rhine and its navigable tributaries such as the Main and Neckar brings a higher water level due to increased rainy weather. The previously usually very low water level then increases around the first Advent. The amount of water in Advent depends on the intensity of the rain and the dryness of the soil after summer. In 2009 the level rose from 1.51 m to double due to the advent water at the confluence of the Main and the Rhine.

In obstetrics , the term is used by midwives for the leakage of the first amniotic fluid.
