Aemilia (daughter of Marcus Aemilius Scaurus)

Aemilia (* around 100 BC; † 82 BC ) was the only daughter of the elder Marcus Aemilius Scaurus and his wife Caecilia Metella .

When she was born, Scaurus was around 60 years old and, as princeps senatus, was the spokesman for the Roman Senate and one of the most important politicians of the Roman Republic . After her father's death, her mother married Lucius Cornelius Sulla Felix , who looked after the upbringing and wealth of his stepdaughter, but also used her for political alliances.

In 82 Aemilia was married to Manius Acilius Glabrio and pregnant when her husband criticized the dictator's policies, whereupon Sulla forced a divorce and Aemilia immediately married Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus . The marriage promoted Pompey's political career, especially since Aemilia came from an aristocratic-patrician, but he came from a family that had recently reached senatorial rank. However, Aemilia died shortly after giving birth to the child she was expecting from her first husband.
