Aeródromo de Sotos is an airfield in the municipality of Sotorribas in the Spanish province of Cuenca in the autonomous community of Castile-La Mancha .
The airfield is located around two kilometers northeast of the city of Sotorribas. The Aeródromo is approved for civil aviation under VFR conditions and was built in the 1970s on Finca Sotos right in the valley on the tree line of the Sierra de Bascuñana .
In the summer months it is the base for fire-fighting planes and helicopters of the fire pilots of the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha ( Fomento de la planificación, protección y defensa contra incendios forestales ). Due to its geographical and climatic location, the place is also often used by glider pilots for cross-country flights. The helipad and the petrol station are at the beginning of runway 16.
expansion
A project is currently in the municipal council with the aim of extending the runway, building new hangars and setting up a control tower.
