The Aerfer SpA ( Industry Meccaniche Meridionali Aer onautiche e Fer rotranviarie SpA ) was an Italian aircraft manufacturer . The company, which belongs to the IRI -Finmeccanica (now Leonardo ), emerged from the Meccaniche Aeronautiche Meridionali (IMAM) industry in the 1950s . The aim of Aerfer SpA was to continue some of the developments in aeronautical technology that had been discontinued at the end of the Second World War .

The types Aerfer Sagittario II and Aerfer Ariete emerged from this endeavor.

In the 1960s, the company also manufactured vehicles for public transport . In 1961 z. B. Double-deck buses of the type Aerfer VE 111 Metropol . In omnibus chassis of the Fiat 421 with a diesel engine of Fiat self-supporting light alloy were constructions set, the bot 45 seating and 60 standing. The entrance was at the back, where the Schaffnerplatz was. There were two flights of stairs and the driver sat in his own compartment. The bus was 11 m long, 2.5 m wide and 4.1 m high. The buses were z. B. used in city traffic in Rome and Florence .

In 1969, Aerfer became part of the Aeritalia group through a merger with Salmoiraghi and the aircraft construction division of the FIAT group ( Fiat Aviazione ) .
