Aeschi (noble family)

The Knights of Aeschi (or von Esche) were a ministerial family in the canton of Solothurn . They named themselves after the castle near the Burgäschisees in the area of ​​the community Aeschi in the eastern part of the Solothurn district Wasseramt .

The castle , which stood on a moraine ridge between the lake and the Chlepfibeerimoos , came into the possession of the lords of Stein, who were wealthy in the area, in the late 13th century . In 1332 the castle was conquered and destroyed by the troops of Bern and Solothurn in the Gümmenenkrieg . No remains of it can be seen today. The memory of the facility is only passed down in field names. Archaeological excavations in 1955 and 1956 showed the brick floor plan of the castle and brought to light medieval finds.

Knight Cuno von Esche owned a fiefdom of the St. Ursenstift in Solothurn in Aeschi until 1252 .

Representatives of the von Esche are documented in the 13th century near Waldshut (Germany). Friedrich von Esche appeared in 1289 in the vicinity of the St. Blasien monastery .

Nikolaus von Esche was a citizen in the city of Bern around 1333. He owned part of the hold reign .
