Aeschi is a municipality in the Wasseramt district of the canton of Solothurn in Switzerland , not to be confused with Aeschi bei Spiez , another political municipality, but in the Frutigen-Niedersimmental administrative district of the canton of Bern . Since January 1, 2012, the previous municipality of Steinhof has been part of the municipality of Aeschi (SO) as a Solothurn exclave in the Bernese Oberaargau.

The community of Aeschi consists of the districts Aeschi, Burgäschi and Steinhof. The Burgäschisee is located south of Burgäschi .

Neighboring communities are: in the north Etziken , Bolken ; in the east Niederönz , Herzogenbuchsee , Bettenhausen and Hermiswil ; Seeberg in the south ; in the west three courtyards .

history

  • Stone Age: There were lakeside settlements on the Äschisee.
  • 1252: first documentary mention of Aeschi. The name probably goes back to the term «location of Eschen».
  • 14th century: The castle near the lake, built around 1100 by the Knights of Esche , was destroyed by the troops of the cities of Bern and Solothurn .
  • 1361: The lower jurisdiction in Aeschi passed to Solothurn. The high level of jurisdiction remained with Bern.
  • 1665: In the Treaty of Wynigen, Bern renounced high jurisdiction.
  • 1683: With the inauguration of St. Anna's Church, Aeschi became an independent parish in the Diocese of Constance .
  • 1829: Burgäschi broke away from the large community and formed an independent community of Solothurn residents.
  • 1941–1943: Lowering of the Burgäschisees by 2 meters to gain arable land ( Wahlen plan ).
  • 1994: Burgäschi and Aeschi reunited to form a community.
  • Around 2000: at Aeschi, construction of the Hersiwil tunnel on the new Mattstetten – Rothrist railway line .
  • 2012: The Steinhof community merged with the Aeschi community.
