The small settlement above the lake of the same name formed an independent political municipality from 1830 to 1993. Paleolithic Silex artifacts as well as Mesolithic and Neolithic settlements around the once larger Burgäschisee. The castle, built around 1100 by the noblemen von Esche (owned by the von Stein lords), was destroyed by Solothurn and Bernese troops in 1332 in the Gümmenenkrieg . The city of Solothurn took over rule and patronage rights and assigned Burgäschi to the Vogtei Kriegstetten ( Subingen court ). Burgäschi has belonged to the newly founded parish of Aeschi since 1683. 1941-43 amelioration of the lake and the establishment of the reserve Burg moss. The accessible lakeshore is now a popular recreational area.
