Hermann Ritzau (composer)

Hermann Ritzau (* 1874 ; † July 9, 1954 in Hanover ) was a German composer , conductor and Kapellmeister .

Life

Hermann Ritzau composed, among other things, the music for the production of Goethe's Faust given by Franz Rolan on the occasion of the Schauburg, which opened in Hanover in 1911 .

Decades later Ritzau composed the Maschsee waltz, referring to the construction of the Maschsee in Hanover, and the Hanover-Lied , which was also published as a waltz with the text by Chr. Weigold as a picture postcard in the Hanover publishing house Victor Meyer.

Hermann Ritzau had a daughter who gave birth to his grandson, later graphic artist, painter and university professor Rolf-Hermann Geller , in the last year of the Second World War in 1945 in Güntherstrasse in the Hanover district of Waldhausen . In the last years of his life, Ritzau, who lived in a "[...] socially large house with singers, musicians and visual artists", had a decisive influence on his grandson.

Hermann Ritzau was buried in the Gellers family grave in the Engesohder cemetery in Hanover.
