Afaese Manoa

Afaese Manoa (* 1949 , Tuvalu ) is a Tuvalu writer and musician.

Manoa is the poet and composer of Tuvalu's national anthem , Tuvalu mo te Atua ( Tuvalu Almighty ). It was adopted as the national anthem in 1978, the year of independence from the United Kingdom . There is very little literature in the Tuvaluan language . Like other writers in the Pacific region (e.g. Joanne Gobure of Nauru ), Manoa is considered a writer with a strong religious vocation. Manoa has also worked as a radio announcer and has edited the textbook Cycles in Tuvaluan (1977) with Gary Crawford and is a Seventh-day Adventist pastor .

Awards

Manoa received the Queen's Service Medal from the Governor General of New Zealand on May 7, 2014 .
