Joanne Gobure

Joanne Ekamdeiya Gobure (born April 26, 1982 in Denigomodu , Nauru ) is a Nauruan poet.

Life

Gobure was born in Denigomodu and lives in a district of Uaboe . She is the cousin of tennis player Chris Gobure , who competed in the South Pacific Games .

She attended schools in Nibok , Aiwo , and Yaren and earned the Nauru Junior Certificate .

Since 2003 Gobure has been working as a teacher at Nauru College in Aiwo. She was hired by school principal Richard Lewis and Education Minister Baron Waqa as an IT teacher. Although she has no college degree, she is studying at the University of South Pacific (USP). She gives courses for Microsoft Office and also works at the Nibok Infant School .

Gobure writes her poems mainly in English . It is little known beyond the borders of Nauru. The poem " A Beautiful Prayer " was best known on the Internet and in numerous Christian forums.

Gobure is considered a writer with a strong religious vocation, similar to other writers in the Pacific region (such as Afaese Manoa of Tuvalu ).
