African institution

The African Institution is an association founded in the United Kingdom by opponents of slavery and for the development of the African continent.

It was in connection with the abolition of the slave trade established. 1807 The followers of abolitionism (e.g. William Wilberforce ) met and gathered in it . At the same time, however, their aim was to civilize and teach Africa. She founded many schools in Africa, particularly in Sierra Leone . In 1810 , the then head Zachary Macaulay campaigned for the return of Sarah Baartman , known as Hottentot Venus , to the Cape Province.
