Afro Hesse

Afro Hesse (* 1980 in Algeria ) is a German-speaking rapper from Algeria who lives in Darmstadt and Berlin .

Life

Due to the impending civil war in Algeria, his family fled to Germany in 1990, whereupon Afro Hesse grew up in Darmstadt. In the following years he did not have a residence permit . Afro Hesse began recording music at the age of fourteen at the Oetinger Villa youth center in Darmstadt . According to his own account, Hesse first came into contact with hip-hop at the age of nine.

In 1997 the armed conflict in Algeria eased, whereupon the Darmstadt immigration office demanded that the family be expelled. This escaped deportation through church asylum. In 1999 Afro Hesse, who speaks five languages, received an eight-month suspended prison sentence for robbing a man's wallet. Unlike his family, he was not granted a residence permit due to the punishment. In 2003 he fled to France, where he first lived with friends in Grenoble and later went to Paris. There Afro Hesse came into contact with other rappers through a youth center and collaborations with artists such as Busta Flex emerged. Three months after his escape from Germany, Afro Hesse was seen on French music television. In Paris, the rapper also sold his first album The Lost Immigrant to tourists. In 2004 Afro Hesse returned to Germany and lived underground. In January 2005 he met his future fiancée.

The second album More Than Music was released on February 29, 2008 on the Liquor Music label. For the album, pieces were created together with rappers such as Sentino , Eko Fresh , Godsilla , Afu-Ra , Ali A $ and Megaloh . The music was contributed by Bugati and Illfated Tre, among others. A video was made for the title Sans Papier .
