The Oetinger Villa is a building in Darmstadt .

Architecture and history

The representative villa with a large park is located on the former agricultural estate Karlshof and was built in 1898 according to plans by the Karlsruhe architect Eugen Beck. The builder was the grand ducal chamberlain August Freiherr von Oetinger. In 1910 the villa was expanded considerably according to plans by the architect Paul Meissner. Stylistically, the massive -looking building with its extended slate-covered roof belongs to the historicism phase . The contrast between the plastered facade and the natural stone that divides the two-story building is striking .

The beautiful details of the property include the elaborate building decor and the dragon fountain below the west terrace . The historical enclosure with a remarkable Art Nouveau gate , the temple and the old network of paths in the park are part of the whole .

Monument protection

For architectural and historical reasons, the Oetinger Villa is a cultural monument .

The Oetinger Villa today

The sponsoring association of the self-administered youth and cultural center Oetinger Villa eV (JuKuZ Oetinger Villa) has been active in the Oetinger Villa since 1991 and has established itself as a cultural institution with its program. In 2015, the JuKuZ Oetinger Villa was awarded the Applaus venue program prize by the Minister of State for Culture and Media, Prof. Monika Grütters and the Initiative Musik for its “culturally outstanding program”.

Since February 1976 the Oetinger Villa has also housed the municipal youth center Oetinger Villa . On January 1st, 2017 the association “Vielbunt”, which advocates the interests of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and trans people, took over the sponsorship of these rooms and opened a queer center there.
